RHYL rounded off their home fixtures with a resounding five-star show on Saturday and it could have been more.
As well as hitting the net five times the Lilywhites hit the woodwork four times as they demolished a disappointing Port Talbot, who are still in the running for fourth place in the Welsh Premier.
Even with four key players missing through injury an
d suspension Rhyl never looked in any danger as they raced into a three goal lead at half time.
Chris Sharp – looking lively and confident – opened the scoring on 18 minutes when he fired home past Port keeper Josh Payne from 12 yards.
Sharp made it 2-0 on 29 minutes following good work by the impressive Chris Roberts and Mark Connolly when his low drive beat Payne from just inside the penalty area.
The best of the half came from the enigmatic Craig Garside seven minutes later when he latched onto an inch perfect Marc Lloyd Williams pass to rifle home a low drive from 20 yards.
After the break Sharp was unlucky to see his shot rebound off the crossbar before Roberts was denied by Payne, who tipped the defender's superb effort onto the bar.
Roberts was desperately unlucky a few minutes later when his thunderbolt effort from 25 yards rebounded off the post to safety.
The fourth goal was inevitable and it came from old campaigner Lloyd Williams who used all his experience to calmly lob over Payne into the far corner from the tightest of angles.
Connolly then hit the bar with a 25 yard free kick with Payne nowhere to be seen before Lloyd Williams wrapped things up on 76 minutes from close range following a surging run down the left by Sharp.
Considering Rhyl were missing Greg Stones and Craig Jones through injury; Lee Hunt through suspension and skipper George Horan not risked ahead of yesterday's (Tuesday) match at Bangor City their replacements all turned in excellent performances to keep Rhyl 12 points clear of the pack in third place.
RHYL: Kendall, Ruffer, Graves (Brewerton 65), Connolly (White 71), Holt, O'Neill, Garside (Powell 87), Wilson, Sharp, Lloyd Williams, Roberts.
Last Tuesday Rhyl turned in a disappointing performance at home to second placed The New Saints, falling to the only goal of the game from John Toner.
Next Saturday Rhyl play their final league match of the season at Porthmadog, who are battling to avoid relegation to the Cymru Alliance.
