Prestatyn Town's six match winning build-up to their first season in the Welsh Premier League was brought to an abrupt halt as the seasiders crashed 5-0 at home to formidable Vauxhall Motors at Bastion Road.
Prestatyn were a goal down inside the opening two minutes and conceded a second midway through the first half.
The gap widened early in the second period while a penalty fired wide of keeper Jon Dunt brought aggressive Vauxhall their fourth goal twenty minutes from time.
The visitors' nap hand was completed with a controversial fifth in the dying minutes of an often fractious encounter.
Prestatyn Reserves had better fortune in their high-scoring warm-up game at Point of Ayr which ended up 6-4 to the visitors. Darren Hughes and Chris Roberts both netted twice with Carl Murray and Jonathan Grimley pocketing the others.
nNow Town player-manager Neil Gibson will be looking to rebuild any dented confidence when Prestatyn entertain attractive Skelmersdale United in another severe test at Bastion Road this Saturday, kick-off 3-pm.
nOn sale at the ground will be new badges specially designed in a limited edition of 100 to commemorate Prestatyn's historic first WPL match – against Airbus UK at home on Friday week August 15 – priced £4 each.
