OVERSEAS pro Mario Olivier flopped with bat and ball as Prestatyn's first completed game in the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition Premier Division ended in a six-wicket defeat at Southport and Birkdale.
South African Olivier, who only landed on British soil on Thursday, took just one for 76 off 14 overs and managed a mere nine with the bat.
After winning the toss Prestatyn were all out for 208. Ali Taylor could only manage five but then Gareth Boughey (48) and Danny Thomas (35) put on 85 for the second wicket
Both departed quickly before Mazza Heyns (47) and Haydn Williams (25) concocted another half century stand. Skipper Morne Williams posted 18 but the rest of the battling struggled.
In reply, Southport and Birkdale did not lose their first wicket until the score reached 98 and they eventually got home with 16 balls to spare on 211 for four.
Apart from Olivier and Williams, Heyns was the only other wicket claimer.
Prestatyn 2nds began their campaign with a home draw against Burscough 2nds.
Put into bat, the visitors racked up 210, Haydn Owen scooped two for 30 .
Prestatyn were then restricted to 125 for four, skipper David Harris 43, Mike Bona 42 not out.
