RHYL have got "the draw they wanted" for the opening game in the Intertoto Cup.
They will play Dublin side Bohemians and speaking from Geneva on Monday, club President Peter Parry said they were excited and believed they had a genuine chance of progresssing to the next round.
Parry said: "This is the draw we wanted and ideal fo
r us. We have never been drawn against an Irish side in our European games and apart from keeping our costs down we are confident that on our day we can beat Bohemians. We have more of a chance in the Intertoto Cup and are quite excited at the prospect."
A game in Dublin is a virtual local derby for Rhyl and they are sure to take lots of travelling supporters for the first leg at Dalymont Park on either June 21 or 22. The return leg at Belle Vue will be played on either June 28 or 29.
Should they get past Bohemians, Rhyl could be facing a trip to Iceland, or a return to Skonto Riga where the played the Latvian side in the European Cup four seasons ago.
While the Rhyl club will rightly see this as a winnable tie, Bohemians will, nevertheless, be a tough nut to crack. They are a professional side playing in Ireland's top Eircom League which is on a par with the English Conference League and are lying second having only lost one of their last six games with five victories.
Last week they played out a goalless draw in a friendly with championship side Burnley and with the Irish league only half way through the season the side will be at the top of their game.
