ONLY seven Abergele Harriers raced this week but three were in action on the track and the road.
Club captain Geran Hughes was representing Great Britain in the 16th European veterans championships in Ljubljana in Slovenia.
Running in blisteringly hot conditions of more than 30 degrees, Hughes ran magnificently in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 10.58 for seventh position overall and second British finisher.
This was a fantastic result as Hughes was seeded 10th going into the race from previous times in the last 12 months.
On the same day, but closer to home in Manchester, four Harriers took part in the Sale 10 mile road race. It was run in perfect conditions over a four lap course starting and finishing on the track.
First Harrier home, taking 68 seconds off his personal best for the distance, was Sean McCormack, in a time of 56.39, the eighth fastest time in Britain this year for the distance by an MV45.
Tim Cahill, another Harrier right on form at present, clocked 58.06, his fastest time for the distance for over 11 years and good enough for third MV45 on the day.
Dewi Roberts, with a personal best by 58 seconds, ran well to finish not far behind Cahill in 58.28 for fourth MV40.
Gareth Roberts managed to take 35 seconds off his best time, as he edged his way closer to the elusive one hour barrier, finishing agonisingly close in a time of 60.11.
Meanwhile, on Friday night, Robert Spotswood was among the 200 runners taking part in the Gabowen five mile road race, run over an undulating course around country lanes and into a head wind most of the time. He ran an excellent time of 37.14.
On Sunday, Spotswood travelled to Borth, near Aberystwyth, for the Borth Beach 10k, run almost entirely on the beach while the tide is out.
He came home in 47.13 to finish 26th out of 110 runners.
On the previous Tuesday night, three Harriers travelled to the Trafford Grand Prix series for the 3000m race.
First Harrier home, winning the B race in very windy conditions, was Sean McCormack in 9.47.
Tim Cahill, continuing his return to the track, finished in 10.00 for sixth position, while Steven McCormack clocked 10.17, 19 seconds faster than he had raced over the same distance in Deeside just two days earlier.
