RHYL ended their season on a low but can reflect on another season of relative success, finishing third in the Welsh Premier and once again qualifying for European soccer.
Although finishing 16 points behind champions Llanelli and nine points behind runners up TNS, the Lilywhites proved once again that they are the top part-time club in Wales.
The gulf between the top sides and the rest is widening every season with Rhyl a whopping 10 points ahead of fourth placed Port Talbot. The Welsh Premier will split into two 10 team divisions in a couple of years giving teams a more even contest each week.
The defeat at Porthmadog last Saturday allowed the men from the Traeth to breathe easier as they missed relegation by just one point.
The friendliness between the clubs was evident at the final whistle with Rhyl fans joining the home supporters in celebration at avoiding the drop.
The only goal of the game came on 58 minutes when Richard Hughes netted to ensure safety.
Rhyl turn their sights to the League Cup final next Sunday when they play champions Llanelli at Newtown.
Llanelli are chasing the treble; the league, Welsh Cup and League Cup, a feat only achieved once before and that was by Rhyl in 2004.
