Mark Webster

MARK Webster delivered a rocket as his tilt at the Ladbrokes.com World Professional Darts Championship continued.

The Denbigh destroyer, seeded number 25, proved to be far too strong for ‘Rocket’ Ronnie Baxter as he romped to a 4-0 second round win at London’s Alexandra Palace.

Tonight (Wednesday) sees Webster take to the stage in the third round against surprise package Mark Hylton, who saw off former world number one Colin Lloyd in the second round.

Webster goes into that match in great form as he hasn’t dropped a set in his opening two games.

Webster swept aside Steve Maish 3-0 in round one, before hitting a 167 finish and a 97 average against Baxter.

"I've hit high averages before but not backed it up. At the moment I'm consistent and that's been the difference," he said.

Webster hit double 10 with his last dart to edge a tight opening set. In the second set, the Denbigh ace took advantage after Baxter missed four darts at doubles to square the match and then took the next set without dropping a leg.

The fourth set went the distance, but Webster took control of the final leg to finish it on double top.

"I've got to improve for the rest of the competition, but I'll take a 4-0 win anytime," he added.

Should Webster see off Hylton, a Saturday quarter-final with 15-times world champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor is likely to be his reward.

The semi-finals and final are played this Sunday and Monday.
