ABERGELE Harrier Sean McCormack has been selected to represent Wales in the 2011 Celtic Plate 100k.
Sean, who was named the Conwy Sportsman of the Year for 2011, will join the finest distance runners from the home counties in Perth, Scotland, on March 27.
Two Harriers braved bitterly cold conditions to compete in the Stockport 10 mile road race at the weekend. Dewi Roberts ran 58.6sec for 12th overall and first in the V40 category, with brother Gareth finishing in 1.27sec for 22nd overall and 3rd in the V40.
In the third round of the Borders League Josh Dixon ran a great race to finish third, Darren Blazier 23rd, Richard Wilyman 44th, Mark Mayers 78th, Andy Simpson 79th, Ed Reid 99th, Grahame Shone 182nd, with John Essary and Peter Hardy completing the male contingency for the club. Emma Collins led the team home for 93rd overall, followed by Christine Birch 146th and Sian Hall, 186th.
Freezing conditions led to double disappointment for Prestatyn Running Club at the weekend, with both the Welsh Inter-Regional Cross-Country Championships and Border League fixture blighted by the weather. The Inter-Regional fixture had to be cancelled while the Border League meeting took part in a non-counting reduced course.
Leading the team home in 24th place was Tom Roberts, followed by Gordon Jones 39th and George Nicholls 47th. Griff Owens, 60th, Neil Owen 81st and Chris Hayes 92nd completed Prestatyn’s contingent in the top 100. Sian Beck was again first Prestatyn lady finishing 141st, with Glenda Davies 160th.
Gay Waring, Amie Bagnall, Sharon Jones and Gill Brandrick completed the team efforts.
The club’s pre-Christmas handicap will be held on Saturday, and any members not running are asked to help officiate. All runners are asked to bring a prize worth about £2.50 which would be suitable for a man or woman, so that everyone takes away a prize of the same value. Those taking part should contact Gareth Hughes or Arwel Jones. On December 22 the draw will be made for the club’s two places in next year’s London Marathon. Those wishing to enter the draw should notify Gareth Hughes and produce their rejection slips.
