Denbigh 19 pts
Rhyl 17pts
RHYL went down by just two points in their season opener with a missed conversion in the dying minutes proving vital.
Denbigh opened strongly and went ahead after six minutes when lock David Haydock then peeled to the front of the line out to dive over in the corner for a try which scrum half Llion Edwards converted
Rhyl equalised on the half hour mark following a drop out on the Denbigh 22 when full back John Hall broke through some weak tackling in midfield to cross for a try which centre Rob Manley converted.
More heavy pressure by Denbigh at scrums near the Rhyl line eventually took its toll as David Haydock again showed his strength in driving through from short range for an unconverted try.
The visitors drew level through an unconverted try by flanker Anthony Tilley but then an attempted chip by full back John Hall was charged down by opposite number Jamie Winning who reacted quickly by regathering before outpacing the Rhyl cover to race under the posts to leave Llion Edwards an easy conversion.
With time running out Rhyl got some reward for their positive play when left wing Paul Selwood to go over in the corner for a try.
The conversion attempt from wide out, which would have given Rhyl a deserved draw failed.
