LEAGUE Two outfit Macclesfield Town edged out Rhyl FC 1-0 in a well contested pre-season friendly that saw the Rhyl faithful bid farewell to Jack Cudworth.

The 19 year olf goalkeeper has signed up for the League Two outfit after a trial period.

“I've had a fantastic time at the club since I joined in January,” Cudworth said.

“Thanks to Greg Strong for having faith in me. It's not often managers have faith in 19 year old goalkeepers, let alone make them the number one.

“I wanted full time football and Macclesfield Town have given me the opportunity which is too good to turn down.”

Macclesfield midfielder Paul Bolland netted the only goal of the match early in the first half, but Rhyl showed their mettle in competing admirably against the English league side.

Gareth Owen fired in a free-kick for Rhyl’s best opportunity of a difficult first period, forcing Macclesfield keeper Jose Veiga to stay on his toes.

Owen and Stuart Rudd also went close in the second half in what was an encouraging performance for the Huws Gray Alliance side.

Rhyl FC have also announced that their season ticket sales have gone up from last season.

Secretary Kevin Davies: “The purchasing of the season tickets has provided much needed income and is an indication of the determination and commitment of our fans to do everything they can to support our efforts to get back to the Welsh Premier League at the first attempt."
