PRESTATYN finally broke their 14-match duck with a four wicket triumph on the day the club celebrated its 115th anniversary.
A large crowd, drawn more to savour the rotating skewered hog than observe the historic on-field cricketing side-show, were at least given the ideal accompaniment to their feast when skipper Steve Giblin leapt high into the air in tribute to a landmark moment in the annals of Prestatyn's distinguished history.
Giblin first lit the fuse when he won the toss and inserted the fancied Hall.
It was a gamble that paid off as the visitors, chasing a double to go with their eight-wickets success when the teams met on the opening day of the Premier League season, back on May 8, suddenly looked vulnerable.
On that occasion, Prestatyn's Indian pro Maripuri Suresh had not yet arrived in this country but he made certain his presence was felt this time.
In a remarkable spell he denied Northop Hall a solitary run off his first 42 deliveries in a sequence of maiden after maiden.
He eventually snaffled five for 32 off 21 economical overs, ably supported by Richard Williams four for 63 off 17 to halt the Hall on a modest 160 off 52 overs.
Prestatyn set off in pursuit but at 79 for five that elusive first win was still far from assured until Suresh cracked 48 as he and Giblin 33 not out carried Prestatyn to 161 for six following Dave Harris's 30, with almost four overs to spare.
It yielded a 20-6 points harvest and now Prestatyn will be looking to make winning a habit when they cross the Mersey this Saturday to confront formidable reigning champions Bootle with renewed confidence.
Prestatyn Seconds who were rained off at Sutton without a ball being bowled, take on Hightown at Beach Close.
