Rovers bid for a triple

ABERGELE Rovers were celebrating at the weekend after completing two parts of a league triple.

Tony Emm's late goal earned Gele the draw they needed to win The Mackenzie Jones Clwyd Football League.

Abergele piped Connah's Quay Town for the Premier Division title at Dock Road today. The first half ended 0-0, with Quay hitting the Abergele post on 20 minutes.

Midway through the second period Connah's Quay took the lead when Ben Howarth's free kick was spilled by Gele keeper Jason Harris, but with 11 minutes remaining Abergele captain Tony Emm was on hand to score from close range following a headed knock down.

The home side piled on the pressure but Abergele survived a few scary moments to clinch the title.

Abergele Rovers hope to complete the treble on Friday at Flint, where they take on Shotton Steel in the Presidents cup final, 7:30pm kick-off.

A pounce by Phil Lloyd five minutes from time deprived Prestatyn Town of a trophy triumph in a in a tense 2-1 climax to their Reserve Premier Cup final against Flint Town United at neutral Denbigh Town. The silkmen found themselves trailing to aTony Patel strike for the seasiders but Lee Acott added and Lloyd set the corks popping.

Division Two champions FC Nomads completed a remarkable 100 per cent season by flooring Holywell Town Reserves 5-1
