A TALENTED female footballer from Kinmel Bay is enjoying the honour of representing Wales at senior level.
Jasmin Dutton was selected for the Welsh senior ladies team for their goalless draw with Northern Ireland in Belfast.
The 17-year old Deeside College sports scholarship student has now been called up to the senior Welsh team three times and earned 21 caps from the representing the country at other levels.
A former pupil at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, Abergele, the Tranmere Rovers Ladies defender has enjoyed making the step up to the Welsh ranks and is now looking to gain a place in the squad for the World Cup qualifiers and eventually turn professional.
Jasmin said: “I was really honoured to be called up again to the senior team. In the future I hope to gain another scholarship with a university, possibly in the United States, which will allow me to carry on studying while following a professional career in football.”
Bill Darwin, secretary of the North Wales Girls Football League and North Wales Ladies Football League, hopes seeing somebody from the North Wales coast representing Wales will act as an inspiration to other youngsters from the region.
He said: “It is pleasing to see somebody from this area called up to represent Wales. Hopefully she can be a role model to other young girls who will follow in her footsteps.”
Jasmin is a Sporting Excellence scholarship student of Deeside College, with the scheme aimed at high performing school leavers with an exceptional sporting talent.
The scheme rewards the successful candidates with £1,000 per year so they can concentrate on their studies and their sports activities, without having to get a part-time job.
David Jones, Deeside College principal, said “I would like to congratulate Jasmin on her great achievement in being called up to the senior Welsh team.
“The Sporting Excellence scholarship scheme is proving to be a huge success, each year we have a fresh intake of young men and women who thanks to the scheme are excelling in both their chosen sport as well as in the classroom.”
