FOOTBALL: Rhyl turn on style to secure win at Airbus

RHYL boss Niall McGuinness praised his side’s character as they broke their six-game losing streak at Airbus UK.
The Lilywhite turned in one of their best Dafabet Welsh Premier League performances of the season to come away with a 3-0 victory, and they will look to make it back-to-back triumphs this Friday when they host big spending Gap Connah’s Quay (7.45pm).
McGuinness said: “We said that performances haven’t been good enough and we trained hard and the effort was excellent.
“The tempo was very high and pressed high and sustained it, we have fit lads who can sustain that gameplan, we are still a team that are learning so this formation was another education for them that they handled very well.
“It’s the first time we have had a solid back line and they were good, there are a couple of tweaks that need adjusting but it was a pleasing performance that we take into next week’s game against a very strong Connah’s Quay side.”
The visitors began the game in a positive fashion and were rewarded on 16 minutes when former Colwyn Bay striker Carl Lamb finished well following a period of sustained pressure.
Things got even better before the break when Robert Hughes fired home a second for the Lilies, and the points were sealed on 56 minutes when Lamb helped himself to a second of the afternoon after a fine team move.
The home side tried valiantly to get themselves back into the game but were met by fierce resistance by the visiting defence who saw out the contest in comfortable fashion to secure a rare win.
One sour note was an injury to their two-goal hero Lamb, who was taken to hospital after suffering an elbow injury.
“Carl got injured a minute from time which was frustrating as I thought he was fantastic throughout,” added McGuinness.
“When he plays like that he is a real asset to us, but hopefully the injury isn’t serious and we can get him back soon.”
