FOOTBALL: Prestatyn Town remain unbeaten after Porthmadog draw

PRESTATYN Town’s perfect start to the Huws Gray Alliance came to an end as they were held 1-1 by title rivals Porthmadog at the Motion Finance Stadium.
Neil Gibson’s promotion hopefuls managed to salvage a draw to maintain their unbeaten league start, and the Seasiders are in Welsh Cup first round action this Saturday when they travel to Welsh Alliance Division One side St Asaph City.
A goalless first half brought little in the way of chances for the home side, who dominated possession for long periods without converting their superiority into goals.
The visitors came out all guns blazing after the break and took a surprise lead on 53 minutes when Chris Jones found a way past Town keeper Carl Jones following a period of sustained pressure.
Their lead proved to be a fleeting one as the home side restored parity to the scoreline almost immediately through midfield talisman Michael Parker, who rounded off an impressive team move with a neat finish on 55 minutes.
Chances fell for both sides thereafter in what was an entertaining clash throughout the second period, but neither side were able to add to their tally, ensuring they both had something to show for their efforts.
The result leaves Gibson’s side two points clear at the summit with a game in hand following Caernarfon Town’s disappointing 1-1 home draw with Caersws.
Attention now turns to Saturday’s cup clash against Chris Morrell’s Saints, who have made a positive start to the campaign and currently lie in seventh position following their 2-0 defeat to title challengers Glantraeth.
