CRICKET: Batting collapse leaves Prestatyn in relegation dogfight

PRESTATYN face a real fight to remain in Liverpool and District Division One after a pair of indifferent results over the Bank Holiday weekend.

David Harris’ side failed to build on a creditable draw at Northop Hall on Saturday as they fell to a 76-run home loss to Southport and Birkdale, a result that leaves them second from bottom and level on points with Highfield ahead of this weekend’s clash with Fleetwood Hesketh at Beach Close.
Monday’s encounter saw the home side produce another dismal batting display, which saw them reach just 33 all out after restricting their opponents to 109 from 48 overs.
A superb all-round bowling display was led by the tandem of Kieron New and Sampath Perera, who took a pair of wickets apiece for the combined loss of 66 runs, while Gareth Boughey also helped himself to a brace for the loss of just 11 runs.
Adam Tidswell claimed a pair of valuable lower order wickets for the loss of four runs, but their efforts in the field proved to be in vain as the visitors tore through the Prestatyn batting attack.
Only the skipper managed to make it into double figures with a knock of 11, with Chris Brownlow finishing the day with figures of 4-2 to inflict another morale sapping loss for the relegation threatened side.
