TITLE chasing St Asaph edged closer to the North Wales Division One crown with a six wicket home win over Carmel and District.
Another dominant performance on both sides of the ball was the catalyst behind the victory, and Mathew Ryan’s side will look to extend their 26-point lead at the summit when they travel to Llay Welfare on Saturday.
The in-form Paul Fleming continued his fine form for the hosts side with another exceptional spell, which saw him take out opener Alec Davies and Daniel Owens for 26 and a duck respectively.
The same bowler was on hand to remove Daniel Sim for 16, and he also managed to take the prized wicket of Dylan Campbell after he made a stylish 51 on his way to figures of 5-28 from 12 overs.
Fleming was ably assisted by Andrew Bellis, who contributed three wickets for the loss of 21 runs, but a sensational last wicket stand from captain Barry McGauthy (31no) and Ben Sim (35no) ensured the home side set a target of 191-9 from their 50 overs.
The leader began their run chase in sensational form courtesy of opener Keenan Vieira, who took advantage of the conditions to hit a quick-fire 44 before he was eventually dismissed by Alec Davies.
Fellow opening batsman Danny Ryan was also in scintillating form throughout what was a superb innings, which he led from start-to-finish to end the day unbeaten on 71.
Other significant scores came courtesy of Will Ryan (35) and Fleming (21) as the home side reached their target for the loss of four wickets after 41 overs to secure yet another convincing victory.
