CRICKET: Promotion favourites Abergele move closer to Division Two title

RAMPANT Abergele extended their impressive lead at the top with a six wicket triumph at Castell Alun.

A tenth victory of the season moved Ed Rooney’s side 17 points clear at the top, and they are also 47 points clear of third placed Ruthin as they are now within touching distance of promotion to North Wales Division One.
Bowler Karl Huggins fog the visitors off to a strong start when he despatched Rhys Young and Perryn Edwards for a pair of ducks, and David Moulson managed to dismiss the dangerous Michael Arden after he was caught on 25.
The same bowler then clean bowled Tom Whitney for 24, and Moulson also skittled Colin Bartley for seven on his way to figures of 3-32 from ten overs.
John David Lloyd provided some resistance with a knock of 42 as the home side managed 124-7 from their 45 overs.
Despite losing Moulson (17) and Ben Garnett (0) to Rhys Young deliveries, a solid knock of 38 from Martyn Hedge tipped the scales in the leaders’ favour.
The skipper made a valuable 27 before he was brilliantly caught and bowled by Lloyd, and a patient knock of 25no from 46 deliveries by David Williams gave the visitors a comfortable win after reaching their target for the loss of four wickets with 35 overs gone.
Rooney’s all-conquering side will look to extend their remarkable run of form this Saturday when they travel to Corwen this Saturday.
