PRESTATYN’s hopes of avoiding the drop suffered a significant blow as they fell to a seven wicket defeat at Highfield.
Ryan Westwell’s side are now rooted to the bottom of Liverpool and District Division One and are now 19 points from safety ahead of Saturday’s clash with Newton-le-Willows at Beach Close.
The visitors made an indifferent start after being put into bat, with the skipper making just three before he was dismissed by Robert Halliwell.
The talented bowler then removed Gareth Boughey for 22, and added a third scalp with the wicket of Daniel Williams (24) on his way to sensational figures of 6-46.
Returning former skipper David Harris contributed just nine on his return, while overseas star Sampath Perera made 17 before he was stumped off a Halliwell delivery.
That proved to be the only score of note as the lower order collapsed to leave the away side on 120 all out from 43 overs.
In-form bowler Kieron New got their time in the field off to a flyer when he clean bowled Tom Ashton for two, and the same bowler trapped Andrew Hargreaves lbw for 12 soon after to end the day on 2-32 off 112 overs.
That was as good as it got for the visitors, as the partnership of Joel Welsby and Ryan Hargreaves tipped the scales in Highfield’s favour.
Welsby produced a number of classy strokes on his way to 48 before he was caught off a Perera delivery, and Hargreaves smashed an unbeaten 52 to ensure they reached their target for the loss of three wickets after just 32 overs.
