A WONDER goal from Jordan Davies was enough to give Prestatyn Town a hard-fought 1-0 win at Swansea University to reach the JD Welsh Cup fifth round.

The Seasiders’ booked their place in the last eight with a gritty performance against the JD Cymru South leaders, which Neil Gibson’s men return their focus on promotion this weekend when they make the trip to Ruthin Town on Saturday, who sit in 11th position after winning six and drawing seven of their opening 21 games.

The Town boss, said: “It was a tight game that was always going to be won by the odd goal and that is what we said to the lads at half time.

“We felt if we kept a clean sheet than we are always capable of scoring goals and creating chances, and it was a moment of brilliance from Jordan that’s ended up winning us the game.

“I thought the lads were fantastic and I don’t think many teams would cope with not having six regular starters injured, but we have immense belief in the players we have in the dressing room.

“Everyone to a man was outstanding and Swansea are a really good outfit who caused us some problems, but we dug in, threw bodies on the line and are pleased to be in the next round.

“Things are going really well currently but there is still a lot of hard work to do if we want to achieve what we want.”

A cagey first half saw both sides miss good opportunities to open the scoring in an evenly matched affair, with Davies, Dan Roberts and Oli Buckley all wasteful in front of goal during the opening 45 minutes.

The decisive moment of the tie arrived after the break when Davies picked the ball up midway inside the opposition half on 51 minutes and unleashed a sensational 35-yard effort that found its way into the top corner.

Substitute Ian Griffiths could have settled the game late on but was unable to convert both chances, and Town managed to resist some intense pressure in the dying moments to hang on for another impressive away win.
