KINMEL Bay striker Matty Griffiths was the hero as they secured an eye-catching 2-1 win at Gwalchmai.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side turned in one of their most impressive performances of the season to Date in order to get one over on the one-time leaders, which leaves Bay in seventh spot ahead of their trip to Llandudno Amateurs on Saturday.

A scoreless first period was brought to life after the break when former Prestatyn Town and Meliden standout Griffiths opened the scoring with a well-taken finish on 63 minutes.

Griffiths was proving hard to handle in the second half and he reacted well to a lapse in defensive concentration on 78 minutes to put away another chance and double Bay’s advantage.

It proved to be a nervy ending to the contest thanks to a Cory Sinnott goal on 81 minutes for the home side, but the visitors remained resolute in the face of some stern pressure to come away with their third away success of the season.

There was no such luck for Bay’s reserve side, who were beaten 7-2 at home by Pwllheli.

Things looked good for the hosts early on when Aaron Dodwell gave them the lead after eight minutes, but they had no answer for a four-goal display from Iwan Roberts-Jones that eventually decide the contest in favour of the visitors.

Bay did manage another consolation in the second half from Mason Richards on 74 minutes, with Toby Foskett, Nicholas Taylor and Osian Jones rounding off the scoring for the away side.
