CONWY Borough were unable to progressed to the Huws Gray Cup semi-finals after a 2-0 loss at Porthmadog.

The Tangerines has nothing to show for their efforts despite some encouraging play in parts, and the two sides square off against this Saturday in Huws Gray Alliance action at Y Morfa (2.30pm).

The home side made an imposing start and went close early on when a ferocious effort from Sion Edwards flew narrowly over from long range.

Boro’ stopper Antoni Sarnowski had to be at his best to deny Gruff John’s goalbound header soon after, with the visitors looking threatening on the counter attack and Corrig McGonigle spurned an opportunity midway through the half when his effort was comfortably diverted by Paul Pritchard.

With the first period drawing to a close, Port managed to break the deadlock on 42 minutes when Dale Davies turned in an Edwards cross at the near post following good approach play from Ryan Taylor.

The impressive Edwards went close to doubling the hosts’ advantage but his curling attempt was brilliantly tipped away by Sarnowski once again, and the keeper was extremely busy in the opening exchanges of the half and thwarted subsequent attempts from Ifan Emlyn, Iwan Lewis and Davies in quick succession.

Gareth Thomas’ side thought they had got themselves back into the tie on 68 minutes but their goal was ruled out for offside, but they did begin to see more of the ball in the final quarter in an attempt to send the game into extra time.

The critical moments came on 88 minutes when striker Dean Seager failed to find the target with two opportunities, and with the away side stretched at the back Port took full advantage in stoppage time when Dan Dascalu slotted home from a Davies delivery to condemn Boro to a last eight exit.
