PRESTATYN Town were denied a crucial Huws Gray Alliance victory at the death and had to settle for a 1-1 home draw with Penrhyncoch.

The Seasiders overcame a number of difficult obstacles including a red card early on and an injury to goalkeeper Ryan Woods, but they showed tremendous character throughout which will no doubt give them plenty of cause for encouragement as they prepare to welcome Bangor City to the Motion Finance Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

Things did not begin well for the home side as they were reduced to ten men after just six minutes when Diego Alvarado was dismissed following an altercation with a visiting player.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Ryan Turner’s side almost went ahead with a quarter of the game gone when Aaron White fired narrowly wide from a Jack Hoult cross, with Chris Bennett also seeing his fierce drive fall the wrong side of the post during the opening exchanges.

The Roosters hit the crossbar after 19 minutes following a corner, and Town managed to break the deadlock with 38 gone courtesy of a 25-yard thunderbolt from the impressive Bennett.

After the break saw the hosts dealt another blow when Woods was forced to leave the field on 51 minutes, and with no substitute goalkeeper Ciran Jones stepped up to take the gloves for the remainder of the contest.

Midfielder James Hay went close to doubling their advantage with an effort from long range that almost fooled the visiting custodian, and Sam Kersh’s header also failed to find the net during a dominant spell from the Seasiders.

Substitute Casey Faulkner and White fluffed their lines with respective chances in the closing stages of the clash, and they were made to pay after 87 minutes when Liam Lewis turned in from close range at the far post to deny Town three points despite a spirited performance.
