PRESTATYN Town have received another blow with the news that striker Ian Griffiths is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The recent signing from Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side Prestatyn Sports suffered a wrist injury during their 2-1 defeat at Denbigh Town on Tuesday evening, and he managed to play through the pain to his credit in the second period.

Griffiths visited Ysbyty Glan Clwyd following the game for assessment, and it confirmed a significant break that will require surgery at a later date.

The new represents another dent in the Seasiders’ hopes of turning their fortunes around and moving off the Huws Gray Alliance basement, with Griffiths making a hugely impressive start since making a welcome return to the club earlier this month.

He has provided a clinical presence in the final third of the field that was sorely lacking during the initial stages of the campaign, and the onus will now be on the likes of Jack Hoult and Matty Griffiths, another new arrival from Meliden, to pick up the slack in the forward’s absence.

A post of Griffiths’ Facebook page, read: “I’m devastated. I shouldn’t have tried to carry on but I wanted something out of the game and I apologise to the fans that came to watch the performance.

“In the second half wasn’t good enough at all, too many chances missed.”
