PRESTATYN Town remain rooted to the Huws Gray Alliance basement after a 2-1 defeat at a resurgent Denbigh Town.

The Seasiders were once again left rueing a host of missed opportunities at Central Park which ensured they had nothing to show for their efforts, and they are now five points adrift of safety ahead of their clash with Penrhyncoch at the Motion Finance Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

The away side started well and went close early on when defender Dave Hayes fired a shot over, with Christian Wright keeping out a Sam Jones effort at the other end.

Striker Ian Griffiths’ effort from deflected wide on 15 minutes, but the visitors eventually broke the deadlock on the half hour mark when skipper Alex Jones produced a fine piece of individual skill before slotting past home stopper Craig Vernon.

This was met with a strong response from Matthew Jones and Dewi Llion’s men, who got back on level terms on 35 minutes when Sam Downey reacted first after Wright initially prevented an own goal from a corner.

Jack Hoult spurned two golden opportunities to give the Seasiders a lead at the interval during an impressive end to the half, and Matty Griffiths also fluffed his lines shortly after the break when his low drive was comfortably saved by Vernon.

They were made to pay for their lack of conviction in front of goal on 56 minutes when in-form striker Mark Roberts headed home at the far post after latching on to a Lewis Sirrell delivery.

Matty Griffiths was presented with another opportunity to rescue a point late on, but he screwed his shot when after being put through on goal to ensure Town had nothing to show from a frustrating evening.

There was further cause for concern as Ian Griffiths visited hospital with a suspected broken wrist that would see him miss a considerable spell.
