CLUB legend Dave Hayes was the hero for Prestatyn Town as they picked up their first Huws Gray Alliance win of the season.

The legendary defender netted the only goal of the game to give the Seasiders a 1-0 success at Holywell Town, and Leon Field and Ryan Turner’s men will look to build on their positive momentum this week in league and cup action as their frantic start to the campaign continues.

Town travel to Denbigh Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup on Tuesday night, before welcoming newly promoted Buckley Town to the Motion Finance Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

Both sides made a fast start with Ryan Woods saving well from former Town striker Damian Ketley after he was put through on goal, and the talented stopper also tipped an effort on to the cross bar in the opening exchanges.

The away side had plenty of possession midway through the half which almost brought with it the opening goal of the contest when Chris Bennett’s effort flew narrowly over after a neat exchange with James Jones.

Kieran Ellis, Jack Hoult and skipper Alex Jones all went close during the remainder of the first period, and Hoult spurned another good opportunity shortly after the break when he fired off target following good work by substitute Ciran Jones.

The Wellmen also looked dangerous with Lee Davey’s fierce strike forcing Woods into another smart stop during what was another commanding display from the Town custodian, with Ellis having an effort hacked off the line at the other end for the visitors.

The turning point arrived on 72 minutes and came courtesy of Hayes, who returned to the set-up after initially retiring at the end of the JD Welsh Premier League season and produced a thumping header that sailed into the net to seal a vital three points for the Seasiders.
