RHYL assistant coach Richard Williams-Cooke praised his side’s patience as they secured a 3-1 home win over Penrhyncoch.

The Huws Gray Alliance title contenders produced a fantastic second half display which was the catalyst behind their success, and the Lilywhites now occupy sixth spot in the early second tier standings ahead of their trip to unbeaten Porthmadog on Saturday (2.30pm).

Eddie Maurice-Jones’ men face a Nathaniel MG Cup encounter with Caernarfon Town on Tuesday night, which is expected to draw a large crowd to the Belle Vue Stadium.

Williams-Cooke, said: “It was a very positive performance after the Prestatyn Town result. We had to be patient with it and the game panned out exactly as we planned.

“Penrhyncoch are a well-drilled side and they set their stall out to get to 0-0 at half time, and I thought it was a nearly performance from us in the early stages as we were missing in a few areas.

“We went in and told the lads to keep playing and moving their two banks of four and the opportunities would come and that is how it worked out.

“I keep on drilling into the lads to stay alive in the 18-yard box and Ben (Nash) has done that, which is really pleasing as the goals are coming from different areas.”

After missing a number of chances in the first period, the Lilies opened the scoring on 52 minutes when Nash prodded home from close range after a Max Peate header rattled the crossbar.

Things got even better for the hosts soon after when James Murphy doubled their advantage on 61 minutes after good work from Kristian Pierce and Mike Pritchard, before Nash notched his second of the evening with 63 gone.

The Roosters did have something to show for their efforts when Liam Lewis tucked in a consolation after 77 minutes.
