RHUDDLAN Town got back to competitive action following a turbulent summer with a late 2-1 home triumph over Machno United.

Wayne Edward Hughes’ men marked their first Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division with a morale boosting three points, giving them plenty of cause of encouragement after what has been a difficult summer off the field.

The home side began the contest on the front foot and went close on numerous occasions in the opening exchanges, before they finally went ahead on 36 minutes through prolific forward Jordan Bellham.

After the break saw the visitors seize the initiative and level matters after 51 minutes courtesy of a neat finish from Callum Parry, but Bellham had the final say with a well-taken strike on 88 to give the hosts a fine success on opening day.

Title hopefuls Llandudno Amateurs set down a marker early thanks to a comfortable 4-0 triumph at Old Colwyn.

A brace from hotshot Steve Kirk did the majority of the damage, with Matt Beach and Aiden Bell both finding the net in the second period to complete the rout.

Another newly promoted side with lofty ambitions are Llandudno Athletic, who came from behind to secure a 4-2 success at Bro Cernyw.

Sion Jones gave the home side a shock advantage after just three minutes, but Athletic responded well to the setback with Jack Williams (2), Steve Cheung and Danny Talbot finding the target to get them off to a flyer.

Abergele also began the top-flight season with a win, with Chris Davies and Reece Kearney striking wither side of half time to secure a 2-0 home victory over Cerrigydrudion.
