LLANGEFNI Town began their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title charge with a 0-0 draw at Llanberis.

Chris Roberts’ men were left frustrated on the opening weekend of action, spurning a host of chances against their well-drilled opponents during what is a difficult opening for the promotion hopefuls.

There was better fortune for Llanrug United, who began their campaign with a hard fought 2-1 success at Llandyrnog United.

Despite the eventual result it was the home side who began brighter and went ahead on 27 minutes through Luke Appleby, but goals either side of half time from Llion Jones and Kevin Lloyd were enough to give the visitors the spoils.

A brace from Paul Lewis was the highlight of Barmouth and Dyffryn United’s 3-3 home draw with newly promoted Prestatyn Sports, while Gerwyn Williams and Daniel Ellis were on target for Nantlle Vale in their 2-0 triumph over Llandudno Junction.

Penrhyndeudraeth secured a notable 2-0 home victory over Llanrwst United thanks to efforts from Alun Hughes and Tom Smith, with an own goal getting Bodedern Athletic off the mark at the first opportunity with a 1-0 win at St Asaph City.

Aberffraw took the lead against Division Two title favourites Glan Conwy through Nathan Moore, but they were pegged back in the second period and fell to a narrow 2-1 home defeat.

Tom Hughes, Keiron Ellis and Bryn Humphries all struck for Blaenau Ffestiniog in their 3-2 success against a fancied Llannefydd outfit, with an Iwan Owen finish after 36 minutes enough for Y Felinheli to secure a share of the spoils in their 1-1 draw at Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

Gaerwen and Llannerchymedd were on the wrong end of 1-0 and 2-1 home reverses at the hands of Mochdre Sports and Meliden respectively.
