LLANGEFNI Town manager Chris Roberts is raring to go as his side start their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title charge this weekend.

Last season’s runners-up begin their promotion tilt at Llanberis on Saturday, with many expecting them to go one better this time around and secure promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance.

Roberts has been left “frustrated” during pre-season due to a number of absentees due to holidays and other commitments, but the arrival of signings such as Alan Mark Owen from Llangefni Town has given their loyal fanbase a renewed sense of optimism for the upcoming campaign.

He said: “I can’t wait to get going now as I am not the biggest fan of pre-season. With so many missing it has been hard to work on certain things so it was just a case of giving the lads I had available some minutes on the field to improve their fitness.

“Our first five games are away from home so it is important that we get off to a good start and make sure this doesn’t come back to bite us later on in the season.”

“I know that some people are making us favourites for the title, but we haven’t really discussed that with the squad and we want to take things game-by-game.

“I think Llandudno Albion are going to be very strong and Llanrug are always there or thereabouts, plus I think St Asaph City are going to be much-improved this season.

“I set the squad a target of points each month and this seems to have worked before, so we will do the same again and hope this has the same sort of success.

Roberts, who turned down the chance to join a Huws Gray Alliance side earlier this summer, remains fully committed to his hometown club and want to reach the second tier with the current squad at the earliest opportunity.

He said: “It was obviously tempting as I want to progress my managerial career, but this is my hometown team and I want to prove to people that we can make it this year.”
