HOLYHEAD Hotspur manager Darren Garmey is aiming for more goals as his side begin their Huws Gray Alliance campaign this weekend.

A new era for the Holy Islanders officially begins at ambitious Flint Town United on Saturday (2.30pm), with Garmey looking for plenty more goals from his squad after a number of key attacking signings during a busy summer.

The latest acquisition is forward Jamie McDaid, who returns to The New Stadium after spending the majority of the pre-season at Caernarfon Town.

Garmey, said: “It’s a relief to finish pre-season as I’m not really a fan of it so it will be nice to get everyone available for our game against Flint.

“Given how many changes they have made it might be a good time to play them in the first game whilst they are still gelling as a group, but they have brought in some real quality and I expect them to do very well.

“Over the last couple of seasons I do think goals have been a problem, but we have looked to address that by bringing in Jamie (Roberts), Harry (Galeotti), Chris (Jones) and now Jamie (McDaid), who are we are delighted to get back to the club.”

Garmey added that his side will have a more realistic aim of where they are going to finish “after the first five or six games”, and he is looking forward to implementing a more expansive type of football rather than the more direct approach of former boss Campbell Harrison over the years.

“We were down to the bare bones last year so I needed to address the strength in the whole squad, which I think we have done with plenty of options,” he added.

“I am looking for the lads to be a bit more patient with the ball which is a big changed from the way we have played previously, and we will take things game by game.

“I think Bangor are obviously strong favourites for the title, but I also expect Airbus (Broughton) to run them very close this year.”
