ANOTHER team that have made significant changes to their set-up this summer are Holyhead Hotspur, who are looking to improve their fortunes following a largely disappointing campaign in the Huws Gray Alliance last term.

Campbell Harrison has been replaced at the helm by Darren Garmey, a respected figure throughout the region that has lofty ambitions for a talented squad that massively underachieved during the previous season.

He has managed to keep the majority of the squad together and they all seem to have instantly bought into his ethos and way of thinking, something that is sure to bring about significant improvement in the ultra-competitive second tier in the coming months.

There is a good core here that have been bolstered by some significant signings, with Harry Galeotti and Luke McGivern handed the chance to prove themselves at a higher standard and is their pre-season is any indication then they could have a part to play as long as there is not too much pressure put on them in the early going.

Goalkeeper Paul Pritchard has left the club and joined Porthmadog, but the Spurs boss acted quickly to replace the talented stopper with the acquisition of Carl Jones from recently relegated Prestatyn Town.

He had his moments in the cruel world of the JD Welsh Premier League last season during a season of struggle at the Motion Finance Stadium, but Jones is a commanding presence and is deceptively good on the floor with his ability to read danger from almost a sweeper-keeper position.

Jamie Roberts is another new arrival that is expected to feature heavily, with squad mainstays such as Tomos Davies, Kenleigh Owen and Mel McGinness have plenty of experience at this level and are all capable of influencing a game considerably when at the top of their game.

Key man: John Littlemore

The former Cardiff Met striker was one of the standout performers in his first season with the Holy Islanders, and more will undoubtedly be expected this time around from one of the brightest young finishers anywhere in the division.

Littlemore is a lethal finisher with a fantastic awareness of where to be inside the penalty area, and with plenty more support this season more goals are sure to come his way providing he gets the right service.

Player to watch: Jamie Roberts

Roberts returns to The New Stadium and is a far better player than the one that left.

He has superb vision and can pick out a killer pass which could prove to be valuable in their pursuit of points, and it will be interesting to see how he fits in with a very deep pool of attacking players that Garmey has at his disposal.

Verdict:

There is a good chance for Spurs to start the season well, and if they can build some momentum early on then this could lead to a successful first season in charge for Garmey.

The HGA is going to be very hard to predict, of course, but there is too much talent situated in all areas of this squad for them to be embroiled in anything dangerous near the summit, and a midtable finish is more likely which would represent progress following their struggles last term.

They are going to score plenty of goals and their formidable home form of seasons gone by will have to return to give them the best possible chance of succeeding, but there is a feel-good factor around the club now that was missing during last season and this will be the spring board for a better showing that is more reflective of their overall ability.
