PRESTATYN Sports were involved in a friendly goal bonanza as preparations gather pace ahead of their tilt at Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One.

Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ men are about to embark on the third tier of the Welsh pyramid for the first time in their history, and they continued their pre-season fixture list with a thrilling 5-4 loss at Cefn Albion.

The visitors made the best possible start to the friendly outing and were ahead within 30 seconds when James Harper hit the target, and things got even better for Sports soon after when the prolific Ian Griffiths added to his fine goalscoring form with another well-taken effort.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who got themselves back into the contest soon after only for recent signing Samuel Duffy to beat the offside trap before steering an effort into the top corner to restore their two-goal cushion heading into the break.

After the interval saw the hosts finally impose themselves on proceedings, and they were rewarded for their improved start with another goal to reduce the deficit once again.

They levelled matters midway through the half courtesy of a sensational overhead kick from hat-trick hero Conner Kendrick, before a stunning free-kick got them in front for the first time soon after.

Sports recovered well from the setback pegged their opponents back when Griffiths used all his experience to prod home from close range following a goalmouth scramble, but they were unable to claim a share of the spoils after Albion netted a late winner at The Rock.

Despite the eventual defeat there were plenty of positives to take from the friendly, not least the performance of young goalkeeper Brooklyn Peakman and the return to the set-up of Darren Cassidy and Ross Hannen.
