A DISAPPOINTING batting display condemned Prestatyn to a 45-run home loss to Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One rivals Wigan.

The Beach Close side could not match an encouraging performance in the field led once again by the superb efforts of bowling sensation Peter Cassidy, and Gareth Boughey’s men now sit in fifth spot as they prepare to visit struggling Newton-le-Willows on Saturday.

Stand-in captain Kieron New got the hosts off to a flyer with the new ball with the quick-fire wickets of John Richardson (6) and Siddesh Dixit (3), before Cassidy took centre stage once again with the scalps of opener Jake Leyland and Aaron Redmond for a pair of ducks.

The outstanding Cassidy added skipper Charles Taylor (25) and Andrew Ford (5) to his list of victims, and he also despatched Declan Mulvey and Jordan Hampson for five apiece to end a spellbinding 18-over spell with figures of 6-37.

Wicketkeeper Edwin Geary provided some resistance for the visitors before he was caught off a New strike for 36 to take his tally to 3-54, and Ryan Parry hit an unbeaten 22 as the away side were all out for 123 from 38 overs’ in the middle.

Things got off to the worst possible start for the Beach Close side as opener David Harris was skittled by Parry after contributing just one, with Ryan Westwell (11), Sheil Sethi (14) and Danny Thomas (1) all falling at the hands of Richardson as things became increasingly bleak for the home side.

Cassidy tried to keep things interesting before he saw his stumps fly thanks to a Hampson strike, and the same bowler also disposed of Daniel Williams (0) and Rhys Jones (1) as the one-time promotion candidates collapsed to 78 all out in reply.
