PRESTATYN Town produced their best performance of the pre-season to secure a 2-1 home victory over City of Liverpool.

The new management team of Leon Field and Ryan Turner will be hugely encouraged by what they saw against their Merseyside opponents as preparations gather pace ahead of the new Huws Gray Alliance season.

They almost took the lead early on when Ben Cawley latched on to a Steven Douasse delivery but his effort from close range was blocked, and this was swiftly followed by a chance for Jack Hoult which failed to find the target after eight minutes.

The visitors were enjoying large amounts of possession and came close on a number of occasions thereafter, while at the other end Diego Alvarado’s effort was blocked by a defender after neat approach play from James Hay and Kieran Ellis.

After the interval saw the home side awarded a penalty on 56 minutes after the lively Ellis was felled in the box, and Hoult held his nerve to convert from the spot and open the scoring.

This joy proved to be short-lived as the visitors struck back almost instantly when Craig Cairns slotted past Elias Jones after some neat build-up play to level matters on 59 minutes.

Jones had to be at his best soon after to deny the away side another, pulling off an incredible sequence of saves as City peppered the home goal following a corner.

With the friendly contest heading for a stalemate, Town crucially got their noses in front once again late on when a superb cross from Alvarado fell at the feet of Ellis on 85 minutes, who made no mistake with the same to seal a notable triumph for the Seasiders in front of a bumper crowd at the Motion Finance Stadium.

Town travel to Llandudno on Tuesday night before welcoming Northwich Victoria on Saturday.
