RHYL continued their frantic pre-season schedule with a 3-1 home loss to Football League side Bury.

The visitors made a strong start to the friendly fixture and went close to opening the scoring on nine minutes when Chris Sang struck the post with an effort following some neat build-up play.

They finally got their reward for their efforts midway through the half when Jack Hutton’s header from a Tsun Dai cross was diverted into his own net by recent signing from Gresford Athletic Max Peate.

The talented defender made up for his error on the half hour mark when he rose superbly to head home a Joe Culshaw delivery to level proceedings after 30 minutes.

The away side almost restored their cushion on 40 minutes when Tom Whelan forced Rory Crowther into a smart stop, while at the other end Dave McIntyre fired wide after good work from Aaron Pomeyie and Matt Cook.

After the break saw the away side go close once again when Charlie Hulme’s strike flashed wide on 51 minutes, but they managed to hit the net once again after 55 when Chris Sang took advantage of a defensive mix-up to slot past replacement keeper Keighan Jones.

Peate got on the end of another cross on the hour mark, but his header from a corner flew over to deny him a second goal of the evening.

The Lilies were unable to make the most of their possession throughout the half, and they were made to pay on 81 minutes when Cameron Hill’s deflected strike left Jones with no chance.

Oli Buckley’s surging run was not matched by his finish late on as the Lilywhites looked to find a route back into the contest.
