CONWY Borough were undone by a late goal in their 2-1 home friendly loss to Whitchurch Alport.

The Tangerines put in another positive performance as preparations gather pace for their return to the Huws Gray Alliance following their memorable treble-winning campaign under Gareth Thomas.

After both sides missed chances in the opening exchanges, the home side got their noses in front after 22 minutes when the prolific Corrig McGonigle unleashed a ferocious effort that found its way into the top corner.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who levelled shortly after through Simon Everall, who rounded off an exception team move which involved a long spell of sustained possession.

After the interval saw both teams continue to press but they were unable to take any of the chances presented to them throughout the period.

This changed dramatically in the final minute of the contest when the away side managed to take home bragging rights after netting a decisive winner with virtually the last incident of the game when a lapse in concentration from the Boro backline saw Arron Johns put through on goal, and the forward produced a composed finish to round off the scoring.

Thomas, said: β€œIt was an excellent work out for us today and there were plenty of positives in the performance for us to work on.”
