ABERGELE remain in the North Wales Cricket League Division One drop zone after a three-wicket loss at title-cashing Pontblyddyn.

The visitors posted a total of 180 all out from 42 overs at the crease, with wicketkeeper Gareth Edwards joint-top scoring with 39 before he was eventually clean bowled by Rhys Edwards during a crucial stage of the innings.

Nalin Wadwha also posted 39 but he was superbly run out by Ryan White, who also took the wickets of David Moulson (16), Wasim Ali (0) and Lewis Tolond (22) on his way to impressive figures of 3-26.

Pont made an impressive start to their time in the middle thanks to an opening stand of 78 from Ben Mason and Alistair Roberts, who made 38 and 39 respectively before both were ousted by Tolond.

Moulsen got in on the act soon after with the scalps of Lewis Davies (20) and James Hughes (24), and Ben Garnett helped himself to three victims in the form of James Griffiths (12), David Foulkes (7) and James Birch (0) to end his four-over spell on 3-32.

This was not enough to secure the spoils as Rhys Jones produced a stylish 22 not out late on to ensure the hosts got over the line for the loss of seven wickets after 35 overs of play.

Ed Rooney’s men now sit second-from-bottom in the standings ahead of their home clash with Llay Welfare on Saturday.
