CAERNARFON Town began their busy pre-season schedule with a comfortable 4-1 win at Conwy Borough.

The Canaries are bracing themselves for a return to the JD Welsh Premier League and performed well against the treble-winners, who enjoyed a memorable campaign themselves under Gareth Thomas to achieve promotion back to the Huws Gray Alliance.

Despite the eventual result, it was the home side who gained an early advantage when they were awarded a penalty after just three minutes, and prolific forward Corrig McGoinigle made no mistake from the spot to give the Tangerines an early advantage.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who levelled matters soon after when Rhys Roberts prodded home from close range after latching on to a deep corner.

Chances came and went for both sides throughout the first period, with Sean Eardley making a host of changes at the interval to get much-needed minutes into the entire squad to ready themselves for the new campaign.

The Cofis took the lead for the first time in the contest after 65 minutes when recent arrival from Porthmadog Sion Bradley finished off a sweeping team move, and they doubled their tally soon after when Jamie Crowther converted a chance following another period of sustained possession.

Big things are expected of striker Jamie Breese in the top flight, and he hit the ground running on 80 minutes with a typically composed effort to round off the scoring in what was a very worthwhile exercise for both clubs.

Eardley’s side continue their preparations next Tuesday when they travel to a very strong Colwyn Bay outfit (7.30pm).
