A WORRYING injury to Brendun Hogan marred Conwy Borough’s 2-1 pre-season victory at Rhydymwyn.

The Tangerines took the field for the first friendly fixture before their return to the Huws Gray Alliance and put in a polished performance following an intense series of training sessions in the lead-up to the clash.

Manager Gareth Thomas utilised his impressive squad with 19 taking the field throughout, with the contest played in three 20-minute sessions due to the intense heat.

The Welsh National League side provided resolute opposition for the treble winners, who came through the contest with flying colours thanks to well taken efforts from Adam Whitlock and Luke Wandless.

One negative for the second-tier side was an injury to influential defender Hogan, who will now be assessed on the extent of the knock, which Thomas described as “nasty”.

Thomas added: “It was good performance If I was being critical we were wasteful in front of goal on several occasions but the only negative was a nasty looking injury to Brendun.”

The Y Morfa side continue their busy pre-season schedule with a home tie against JD Welsh Premier League side Caernarfon Town on Tuesday, before welcoming Whitchurch Alport on Saturday (2pm).

This will be followed by a trip to Prestatyn Sports on July 19, before taking on Carmell Laird two days later.
