PRESTATYN Town opened their pre-season fixtures with a creditable 2-2 draw with AFC Bridgnorth at the Motion Finance Stadium.

Leon Field and Ryan Turner will be hugely encouraged by what they saw from their new-look side as they prepare to embark on a return to the Huws Gray Alliance, and their busy series of friendlies continues when they take on Llanrwst United on Friday.

A cagey opening to proceedings brought little in the way of chances, with Jack Hoult spurning the best opportunity for the home side when he was put through by skipper Alex Jones, only to fire over his effort under pressure.

The forward made up for this miss to give the Seasiders a deserved advantage on 35 minutes, producing a composed finish after once again breaking the offside trap.

Things almost got even better shortly before the break when Hoult was once again presented a chance by Ben Cawley, but this time he was unable to find the target and Town had to be content with a one-goal cushion heading into the interval.

The joint-management team made wholesale changes to the line-up at the break to give everyone involved much-needed minutes in readiness for the upcoming season, with Macauley Taylor almost making an instant impact when his fierce strike grazed the upright, before an Aaron White header was hacked off the line by a Bridgnorth defender.

Gradually the away side began to impose themselves and they levelled matters on 77 minutes with a well-struck effort past Elias Jones, but Town responded well to the setback and restored their advantage after 85 when Casey Faulkner prodded home a rebound from close range after White’s initial attempt was parried into danger.

There was still time for further drama which arrived courtesy of an equaliser with virtually the final action of the contest in stoppage time, ensuring both sides went home with a share of the spoils after an entertaining friendly clash.
