RHUDDLAN Town manager Wayne Edward Hughes has spoken of his surprise after winning a Manager of the Year award.

The talented young boss guided the reformed side to a fantastic Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One campaign, steering them to a third-place finish and promotion to the Premier Division, in addition to silverware in the form of the REM Jones Cup.

He said: “Winning manager of the year came as a complete shock to me if I’m honest, I didn’t expect it at all. So for me to win it in my first season is amazing and I’m really great full and proud.

“I couldn’t have won it without the help of all the players who have been fantastic all season and my sidekick Nick Jones.”

Plans are now well underway ahead of their next challenge in the Premier Division, with Hughes confident his side can spring a surprise and mount a title charge at the first time of asking.

“Winning the REM jones cup was brilliant and gaining promotion was also good but I still think we massively underachieved with the squad we have,” he added.

“I want to win Premier Division next season and with the new players we have added I really believe we will be challenge all the top teams in is league.

“The three teams that have come up will hold their own without a doubt.”

The boss also revealed that Town have recently set-up a youth team that will be plying their trade in Division One next season, and the club is also in talks with Pengwern College regarding a possible 10-year lease of their facilities that would also see the possibility of a disabled team being implemented as part of the progressing set-up.

Hughes, who plans to start his coaching badges in the near future to gain more experience, confirmed that 360 Groundcare have sponsored the club this year and have been working hard on making significant improvements to their playing surface, adding that “the future of the club is looking really good and I’m excited for all the hard work to continue for many years”.
