ST ASAPH City have suffered a blow with the loss of talented forward Jake Walker.

The prolific frontman has turned down the chance to remain at the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side under new boss Daniel Brewerton, opting to join second tier side Denbigh Town with a view to testing his skills against a higher quality of opposition.

The 25-year-old was one of the standout performers for the Saints last term and has further enhanced his reputation playing for Cefn in the Llandyrnog and District Summer League, netting an astonishing 44 goals in just 21 contests.

Town boss Matthew Jones, said: “They all trained hard this morning (Saturday) including Jacob. We have done our best to get local players where we can and Jacob is another we have had our eye on. It is refreshing to hear his views.

“He knows he has to work hard and concentrate on all aspects of his play at this level. He can score goals and that is always a good thing. We are very pleased to have him here."

The new signing is eager to prove himself at Central Park and is the latest signing for the new-look management team following the departure of Eddie Maurice-Jones to Rhyl.

Brewerton now has big shoes to fill as he looks to make his mark after making the move from Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division side Rhyl Youth.

Walker, said: “I want to work hard here and force myself into the reckoning. The coaches are class and the players that are here are quality."
