RHYL have officially confirmed the signing of talented defender Reece Fairhurst from Prestatyn Town.

After The Journal initially reported the news earlier this month, the centre back was officially unveiled by director of football Eddie Maurice-Jones on Wednesday, June 27 at the Belle Vue Stadium.

Fairhurst is another hugely impressive acquisition by the new management team ahead of the Huws Gray Alliance season, where they will be looking to mount a title challenge and secure promotion back to the JD Welsh Premier League at the second time of asking.

The hometown centre half was part of the Seasiders’ squad that clinched the second tier title in 2017 after a memorable campaign under Neil Gibson, but his tilt at the top flight was hampered by significant injury problems that left him largely sidelined since November.

Maurice-Jones, said: “Reece is a fantastic signing and I’m delighted he’s on board.

“His experience at such an early stage in his career will only benefit Rhyl in the future. Reece will be so valuable for us both on and off the pitch.

“He’s technically good and has a great understanding for the game. I’m sure he’ll deliver and prove to be an exceptional signing for us.”

The Lilywhites congregated for their first pre-season training session last week ahead of their first friendly fixture against Altrincham on July 7, and supporters will be given the chance to meet the new management team during an open training session on Friday from 7pm.

Fairhurst, added: “It is a massive opportunity for me to come and play for my hometown. Rhyl is a massive club and I want to get it back where it belongs, which is the Welsh Premier League.

“It has a fantastic fan base and I’m looking forward to putting on the shirt. Having also had positive meetings with Eddie, I liked his ambitions for the season ahead and the long term future of the club.”
