IN-FORM Prestatyn enjoyed another memorable weekend with a notable league and cup double.

Gareth Boughey’s side began a busy weekend with a three-wicket victory over Liverpool and District Cricket League Premier Division rivals Ainsdale, before advancing in the Welsh Cup thanks to an 81-run home success over Connah’s Quay.

Saturday’s outing saw the home side declare on 217-7 from their 55 overs at the crease, with Stephen Lucas and Matt Lucas recording fine half-century knocks with 71 and 59 respectively.

Peter Cassidy and Kieron New both took three wickets apiece to continue their excellent recent form, with the six coming at the expense of 146 runs.

The visiting run chase got off to a tremendous start thanks to an opening stand from Boughey and Ryan Westwell, who put on 115 for the first wicket before they were eventually dismissed for 50 and 51.

Other notable contributions came from Cassidy (23) and Sheil Sethi (28), with an unbeaten 21 from wicketkeeper Robbie Rimmington saw them over the line after 43 overs.

This was followed up by another fine outing in the cup, with the hosts setting a target of 218-7 from their allotted 40 overs against their North Wales Cricket League Premier Division opponents.

Sethi led the way with a brilliant 51, with Gareth Leonard (42) and Westwell (38) also aiding their side’s cause, as visiting bowler Martin Burger recorded figures of 4-50.

A standout spell from Adam Tidswell ensured that Quay never got close to reaching their required total, with the bowler producing a spell of supreme consistency to claim a five-wicket haul for the loss of just 33 runs.

He was ably assisted at the other end by Boughey, who finished with 4-31 as the away side mustered 137 all out in reply.

The Beach Close side will look to continue their excellent run this Saturday when they host Orrell Red Triangle.
