ABERGELE’s good run of recent results came to a halt as they suffered a narrow two-wicket home reverse to Bersham.

The North Wales Cricket League Division side made a difficult start with the bat as David Moulson (5) and Karl Higgings (4) were both despatched in quick succession by Suresh Koswaththage, while Tim Jones removed David Williams after the talented batsman posted a promising 22.

Wasim Ali (7) and Nalin Wadhwa (0) were also removed cheaply at the hands of Nilanka De Silva, and the same bowler also took the prized scalp of top scorer Gareth Edwards on 39 on his way to figures of 4-34 from a 12-over spell.

Only skipper Ed Rooney (10) managed to produce a double-figure score thereafter, with Randheer Bandara taking three lower order wickets for the loss of 12 runs as the home side were all out for 101.

The hosts’ run defence got off to the best possible start when Owen Lynam disposed of Koswaththage for a duck, and Higgins also got in on the act by sending Amith Thilakarathne (0) and Phil Young (10) during a superb spell with the new ball.

Recent signing Lewis Tolond helped himself to two scalps for the loss of 20 runs, with Higgins adding another to take his tally to 3-19, but this prove d to be for nothing as the visitors got over the line for the loss of eight after 30 over of play.

Rooney’s men are next in action on July 7 when they make the difficult trip to Mold.
