RHYL director of football Eddie Maurice-Jones could not hide his delight after convincing striker James Murphy to remain at the club.

The talented forward arrived at the Belle Vue Stadium from JD Welsh Premier League side Newtown in January and made a considerable impression, netting eight times in as many starting appearances.

He became an instant fans’ favourite due to his direct style of play and he is set to significantly bolster a forward line that has a wealth of creativity as the Lilywhites look to mount a Huws Gray Alliance title challenge next term.

Maurice-Jones, said: “James committing for the new season is another big statement of our intent.

“In his short spell at Rhyl he’s become a favourite and it’s not hard to see why. “He has exceptional talent and experience for a young player who will bring quality to the side and be a key figure for the future. James wasn’t short of options but he felt Rhyl and its new management team was the best place for him to fulfil his potential and reach the heights he desires."

Murphy progressed through the ranks at Chester and Connah’s Quay before joining Airbus Academy where he broke through into the first team in 2015/16.

He made 35 top-flight appearances for Wingmakers across two seasons, winning the WPL’s Young Player of the Year in 2016.

Following Airbus’ relegation last summer, Murphy signed for Chris Hughes’ men but was frustrated with the lack of appearances, turning out just seven times for the Robins.
