PRESTATYN Town Defender Reece Fairhurst has become the latest to announce his departure from the club.

The talented centre back is another big name to leave the Motion Finance Stadium following their relegation to the JD Welsh Premier League, In a statement on social media site Twitter, Fairhurst said: “I would like to thank everyone at Prestatyn Town for the last two years.

“It’s been a pleasure playing for the club but unfortunately due to my personal circumstances I will be moving on for the season ahead. I wish the club all the best for the future.”

The defender played a huge part in their Huws Gray Alliance campaign under Neil Gibson in 2017, but injury hampered his contribution during the Seasiders’ brief stay in the top flight.

Fairhurst may not be moving far, and The Journal understands that he is poised to join rivals Rhyl under the new management team of Dave Norman, Eddie Maurice-Jones and Richard Williams-Cooke.

An official announcement is set to be made in the coming days, with Fairhurst joining former Town star James Stead at the ambitious Lilywhites, who are tipped to push Bangor City and Airbus Broughton all the way during what is expected to be a fascinating campaign.

Fairhurst was offered the chance to stay at the club by newly appointed joint-manager Leon Field and Ryan Turner, but after considering the offer he decided to walk away and focus on a new challenge.
