TWO former Rhyl players have agreed deals with Denbigh Town as a sensational summer of transfer activity continues.

Tony Davies and Sam Downey have agreed to join up with former Lilies’ boss Matthew Jones at the Huws Gray Alliance side, which continues the astonishing merry-go-round of player and backroom personnel between the two high-profile clubs.

Davies was a regular at the back during a season of underachievement at Belle Vue Stadium, and he has also boasts plenty of JD Welsh Premier League experience with Colin Caton’s Bala Town in addition to spells at Ashton United and Marine throughout his career.

He is also no stranger to Central Park, having played for the club on a loan basis following a long injury layoff with the Lakesiders.

Talented midfielder Downey began his career at Lincoln City and following his departure from the Imps had a spell in Scandinavia playing for IFK Holmsund in the Swedish second division, Liekner Reykjavik in the Icelandic Premier and Gallivare Malmbergets in the Swedish first division.

After returning to home soil, Downey has turned out for North Ferriby United, Corby Town, Stamford AFC and Spalding United.

Jones and Dewi Llion were announced as joint-managers at Town following Eddie Maurice-Jones’ departure to the Lilywhites, and they are in discussions with a number of potential signings as they look to rebuild the squad following a mass exodus including Kristian Pierce, Jonathan Hill-Dunt, Danny Sullivan, Gareth Partridge and Matthew Cook all follow the boss to pastures new.
