PRESTATYN Town have outlined their ambitions for the future after a fortnight of turmoil at the club.

Sports reporter Dean Jones sat down with club CEO Leigh Williams and media officer Tony O’Reilly on Saturday, June 2, where they stressed the need to “consolidate” their position in the Huws Gray Alliance with a view to sustaining their long-term future.

Williams, said: “In hindsight perhaps accepting promotion to the JD Welsh Premier League was a mistake given the situation we found ourselves in, but if you don’t try in life you never know.

“We told the current squad that we may not be in a position to challenge for promotion over the next two seasons, which is why some of them have decided to move on and they are good enough to be playing at Welsh Premier League level.

“It has not been an easy season and there are going to be some challenges ahead, but we have a great academy and reserve side and I have told those lads that this is there chance to progress into the first team and make a name for themselves.

The pair also revealed that following a period of discussions they have secured the backing of four business advisers, who The Journal understands are businessmen from the Prestatyn area.

They have been given access to the budget and made significant changes to ensure stability in the second tier for a consistent period.

O’Reilly, said: “The four people involved have looked at the figures and said things cannot go on the way they are, and what it takes to get a club on to the field and run a club like Prestatyn Town was a real eye-opener for everyone.

“It is just Leigh and I running things at the moment, and we are also calling for volunteers who wish to get involved to come forward and help get this club moving in the right direction again.”

Town supporters were informed of the ongoing developments at a specially arranged meeting on Monday evening.
